Deform or Transform?

This is a random conversation that I had with a newly met person, which kinda interest me to do a research on it due to the boring summer break (or not). In case you don't know, my final project is about Finite Element Analysis which investigate stress and deformation on a component.

Yupz... this is my stupid project:

"What do you do as a Mechanical Engineer?" he asked.
"Well, I'm more to a simulation base student where I test the outcome by applying stresses on components" I answered with a not-too-proud tone.
"So what happened if I press you with stress?" he followed up...
"Errmmm.... deform?" that's what all Mech Eng are poisoned with! The Hooke's Law!
"Aw... why not transform?" this reply from him is super stunning.

Does the item below catch your eye for a moment? I wonder why but human nature prove that we are kinda attracted to blink blinks. It's a diamond, in greek it's known as "adamas" or unbreakable *ai seh* So he tested me on how diamonds are formed.

Phew... my forbidden memory of A-level does serve me in time, I still remembered diamond is form by perfect covalent bonding between 4 carbon atoms. So I said "carbon". He goes further, where can you find carbon? "Er... coal?" walao... "What forms coal?". If not mistaken, it's from fossils, and also implies... dead trees. Here comes the bomb, "so after being applied high pressure for a long time, they transform to diamond."

These things become blink blinks =o=

C'mon, mech eng(s), it's kinda impossible (and silly) to model a tree, apply super high pressure and set a time step of thousands years, it still won't become diamond! But I need to admit that this is so true. Then, this is my own little research, there is something known as carbon cycle, that tells me tree dies and contributes to carbon content in earth.

A simplified diagram of carbon cycle:

These dead trees are then covered underground by earth motion (you know... floods, earthquakes, rockslides, blah blah blah). Under high pressure and high temperature, 140-190km underground (earth mantle), they are brought to surface through volcanic activities (that's why it's super rare).

Diamond's journey to the surface:

Overall, doesn't matter what kind of dead wood or fine trunk I am, not what kind of pieces am I cut into and fix into what component. The challenge is, am I willing to the the pressure, and transform into someone that can reflects God's glorious light, and shine for Him.

Pray that this season of school holiday/ uni break will bring forth the workers to do greater things for Your kingdom. Hereby, I pray for the annual camp of Nilai Sunday Service, youth camps of both Cheras Baptish Church and All Saint Cathedral. Also the concert of Inti Uni's CF. Though I can't be part of any of these, may all the best wishes and prayers be with you all. In His most gracious name I pray, Amen.
