Wireless Switch Repair

After repairing my Dell Inspiron 1420, I can't go online due to the wireless switch (slider) that turns the built-in wireless adapter on/off, it got stuck and I can't slide it. I suppose the technician made a mistake when he re-assemble my laptop.

I was kinda worried if I need to go all the way down to Low Yat to fix it again, or I'll just do it myself (kinda high risk though). I guess it'll be alright as long as I know how to close it back as the way I open it.

Performing minor surgery with screw drivers:

Firstly, open up the nearest some screws at that corner (what to do if it's a Mac? There's no screw at all). Four would be enough for me to make an opening that's big enough.

Wow, complicated circuit boards:

Basically, what happened is the inner part of the slider is stuck at the circuit board, that prevents it to slide back. So, just lift the circuit board a bit higher while another finger flips the slider back to left. Tada! Thanks God, it's working normally now.

Push up, and recover the slider position:

"So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?”
-1 Kings 3:9

The stress level is rising, more and more work to be done. Pray that The Lord will still watch over as we fight our way out. May Your wisdom helps us along the way. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Blog Renovation 2

It was more than 14 months since the previous blog renovation. I'm kinda cool with the previous one but just a feeling of change (since I really don't feel like doing anything else).

Mainly, I'm revolving around some silver and green stuffs this time. I used the macro shot of bird nest and graduation hat that I took back in uni *Yeah, I graduated! Adding some smudge effect using Photoshop, I can really blend the picture and wallpaper together, with some feather/leaf kind of transition. I designed the text "Hearing is a sense, listening is an art", that took quite long though.

Previous piano header:

New graduation header:

Now the content background, I still love using repeating pattern to make an infinite repeating background. It was quite contrast with very obvious black and gold revolving light, coz of the text, it must be brightened (more than 300%). The silver ray sidebar blends quite well with the whole thing.

Previous content:

New content:

I'm so in love with Photoshop's smudge tool, using it everywhere. I draw my own green flames (although they look like grass) using the tool, acting as the frame for the content. The transition from content to sidebar looks great too. Oh ya, I finally change the page background, now it's green green bamboo~!

Previous page:

New page:

Oh ya, blogger's HTML editor and designing has changed quite a bit since the previous year. It's not too hard, but I studies all over the HTML codes and found that they can do new things to the page title text. This is so cool~

Doing drop shadow, adjusting distance and angle by HTML code:

"Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor fairly"
-Leviticus 19:15
-

A change, could indicate stepping out of one's comfort zone, or stepping into another comfort zone. If God is willing, pray that I made a right decision in this changing point of life. May God provide, in Jesus I pray, Amen.

Deform or Transform?

This is a random conversation that I had with a newly met person, which kinda interest me to do a research on it due to the boring summer break (or not). In case you don't know, my final project is about Finite Element Analysis which investigate stress and deformation on a component.

Yupz... this is my stupid project:

"What do you do as a Mechanical Engineer?" he asked.
"Well, I'm more to a simulation base student where I test the outcome by applying stresses on components" I answered with a not-too-proud tone.
"So what happened if I press you with stress?" he followed up...
"Errmmm.... deform?" that's what all Mech Eng are poisoned with! The Hooke's Law!
"Aw... why not transform?" this reply from him is super stunning.

Does the item below catch your eye for a moment? I wonder why but human nature prove that we are kinda attracted to blink blinks. It's a diamond, in greek it's known as "adamas" or unbreakable *ai seh* So he tested me on how diamonds are formed.

Phew... my forbidden memory of A-level does serve me in time, I still remembered diamond is form by perfect covalent bonding between 4 carbon atoms. So I said "carbon". He goes further, where can you find carbon? "Er... coal?" walao... "What forms coal?". If not mistaken, it's from fossils, and also implies... dead trees. Here comes the bomb, "so after being applied high pressure for a long time, they transform to diamond."

These things become blink blinks =o=

C'mon, mech eng(s), it's kinda impossible (and silly) to model a tree, apply super high pressure and set a time step of thousands years, it still won't become diamond! But I need to admit that this is so true. Then, this is my own little research, there is something known as carbon cycle, that tells me tree dies and contributes to carbon content in earth.

A simplified diagram of carbon cycle:

These dead trees are then covered underground by earth motion (you know... floods, earthquakes, rockslides, blah blah blah). Under high pressure and high temperature, 140-190km underground (earth mantle), they are brought to surface through volcanic activities (that's why it's super rare).

Diamond's journey to the surface:

Overall, doesn't matter what kind of dead wood or fine trunk I am, not what kind of pieces am I cut into and fix into what component. The challenge is, am I willing to the the pressure, and transform into someone that can reflects God's glorious light, and shine for Him.

"Don't interpretations come from God?"
-Genesis 40:8

Pray that this season of school holiday/ uni break will bring forth the workers to do greater things for Your kingdom. Hereby, I pray for the annual camp of Nilai Sunday Service, youth camps of both Cheras Baptish Church and All Saint Cathedral. Also the concert of Inti Uni's CF. Though I can't be part of any of these, may all the best wishes and prayers be with you all. In His most gracious name I pray, Amen.

I'm On Magazine

Anyone heard about the magazine Doctor's Job? It's a magazine about undergraduate courses in Malaysia, mostly about advices and resources. It's normal for student that graduated from highschool, not knowing what course to continue for their undergraduate study. Just like me, blindly picked up a course that I have totally no idea about it.

What so special until I have to blog about this? It's not like I'm interested to get another degree... Actually, Julian already told me a month ago, but it's just recently that I finally get myself a Doctor's Job Issue 59 (about engineering) at Terminal One, Seremban. My interview is on the page! It's about my study in Nilai University College, kinda funny looking at my own article.

Well, I admit I wrote most of the stuffs but I myself don't know some English words in it, must be an eddited version XD. By the way, check where they get my picture from (click here) and you'll laugh til you roll. To my surprise, I'm not the only one from NUC shining on the pages. To my fellow NUC coursemates, behold~

Haha~ for non-NUC coursemates, it's OK if you don't understand, just something between us engineers XD. Oh ya, I take down the promo pages for a few universities that I'm dealing with currently. Check out my previous college, NUC and the neighbor college Inti Nilai. So don't get jumbled up again, I'm not from Inti.

Currently studying at Nottingham University & some engineering guidelines:

Looking back to the steps that I made, thank You Lord for being with me all the time. I wouldn't have make it this far without You. Pray that Your unfailing mercy will continue to uphold us in the coming challenges. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Blog Renovation

As you can see, my blog has a new layout now~ whether you say it's better or ugglier, I definitely like this because I customize and design most of the things MYSELF!!! Different from others who just pick some templates from blogspots or download something elsewhere (of course those looks better), I spent whole day studying, analysing the HTML codes, working on Paint and Power Point to make this new look.

Header
The previous one is a silver header with keyboard and mic which I got from Deviantart, I strongly reccomend this site as they have a lot of cool customize images. The new one, it's originally a piano desktop background that I crop the desired part. The old one just can't fit into that long length of my new layout, also to signify that in this year I upgraded from a keyboardist to a pianist ^_^.

Previous header (keyboard theme):

Current header (piano theme):

Content
The main objective that I wanted a new layout is to extend my limited width. I increased it from 760 pixel to 992 pixel~ this gives me more space to upload more pictures in one row, and also my paragraph won't look that long.

Notice the left side of the content, I dig out the white part of a piano keyboard image and arranged it. The green clover background is a green pattern that I found from google image. I make everything into one row, then just set it repeat-y in the layout HTML to fill up the whole blog. In order to upload your customize image as a URL, use this site -ImageShack.

Previous content:

Current content:

Photo
Something that I liked too, now my posted photos have small invisible frame. It makes the pictures looked more organized ^_^.

Previous photo (frameless):

Current photo (with frame):

Sidebar
Now, my sidebar has increased from 269 pixel to 300 pixel, more space for my gadgets. Please notice the crosses that I scattered around the left side. It was s hard to arranged them into same distances. The block crosses at the right just can't fit nicely, so I draw a blue ball to fill the space.

Compare both sidebars:

During last year August when I had a one holiday, I spent days study HTML codes. That's why I have my own customized background and header. Now, I customize even more. It feels so good looking something I made ^_^.

Preparing a Christmas Present

This is the last week for classes, then there'll be 2 weeks break before exam comes. It also means that I gonna finish up all the lab reports before Friday (or on Friday). For the first lab report (Solid 2 report) that I did it few weeks ago, I spent about 2 weeks on it. Then this week I'm gonna complete 2 reports (twice work half time...). So far, Thermo 2 report is done (used about 3 days). Now I'm struggling on the lab manual, I have no idea how to start Vibration report.

Anyway, it will also be the last bible study for this semester later. Cause christmas is around the corner, we'll be having a gift exchange session. Yesterday, my whole house of people went to The Store to buy some "cheap and nice" gift. I spent RM3.90 on a green container and RM0.80 for a fake rose. Of course, I won't let things happen easily, time for my creativity art work. *Hehe*

First! Fill the container with water until half full and put it into the FREEZER!!!!

Here's the mistake, after 1 hour freezing it, I took it out and thought it was all solidified. When you notice there's bubble inside, it means that it's only the surface that turns to ice. So it needs more cooling.

It took one whole night for it to freeze totally (not sure, cause I'm sleeping). Actually it's fast for the temperature to drop to freezing point (specific heat capacity of water = 4.18kJ/kgK), but the time taking process is to the latent energy that fully changes liquid into solid (latent heat of freezing/melting = 334kJ/kg).

It will be fully in white when all water is solidified:

Then I put a coin on the first ice layer, actually anything that won't float on water will do. Fill it until almost full with water, and put it into the FREEZER again! *Mua ha ha ha* Then I go to class.

After class, which is around evening, I took it out and it seems so "nice". Then I put some small ice cubes at the sides for decoration, and place the fake rose in the middle. Sprinle some water on the fake rose, and put it into the FREEZER again! *WA Ka Ka Ka*

Tada~! Finally I complete my little christmas project. This present clearly show my personality, COLD and LOVELY. I wonder what present will I get later... Hopefully it's not those super simple things such as stationaries or mugs. I think it's quite romantic if I use this method for a girlfriend, but instead of coin, I'll use a ring or someting better.

Then wrap it in newspaper to minimize the heat loss to the environment. Actually, adding some tissue papers in between would be better. Quite worry that my present won't last for the whole bible study later, specific heat capacity of ice is only 2.108 kJ/kgK. Melting is easier than freezing.

Don't know who will be the lucky one who get my present, I'm sure he/she won't forget this.

Isaiah 12:5 "Sing to the LORD, for he has done wonderful things. Make known his praise around the world." LORD, I pray that we will be able to invite more people and make the bible study group grow in the coming semester to glorify your Name. Most of us are heading back to wherever we're from for this 2 weeks break. LORD, I pray that you bless us on our journeys and also we will have a good rest to prepare for the exam. Also pray that the bible study later would be able to bring more people to You, there're more non-believers joining now. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
